World City Center is a dual-immersion preschool located in the Historic West Adams area of South Los Angeles. When you approach the grounds, you feel that you are walking into a traditional church complex until you notice the sign that references an onsite daycare center. It’s not until you step inside that you are transported to a magical world of play both indoors and outdoors. The children have grown a quite elaborate and beautiful garden of flowers, plants, vegetables and fruit. Throughout the two story facility, there is a strong emphasis on diversity, culture, art, beauty, language, and creativity.
Brittie Crawford started her first childcare business in her home in 2009. She was looking for a job and a preschool for her son. When she could find neither, she opened her family home daycare. After five years she expanded to a dual-language preschool around the corner. World City Center opened in 2014 with the help of Pacific Coast Regional.
Today, World City Center provides a play-based preschool experience that prepares children for a lifetime love of learning. The students receive a foundation in a second language that prepares them to become bilingual, bi-literate, global citizens. Students learn to value and honor the differences in others while loving themselves simultaneously. The staff allows kids to be kids, to learn through play, the most effective method of learning for children ages two through five.
PCR provided a business consultant who helped prepare and implement a business plan. PCR’s loan officer identified and secured funding. As a result of receiving the loan from PCR, World City Center went from being a home daycare making revenues of $75,000 per year to anticipating revenues of $750,000 by 2020.
