As you walk up Temple street from Glendale Boulevard near Echo Park Lake, your attention is immediately captured by this incredible work of art, Bloom & Plume Coffee. The captivating purple and orange building draws you in, transporting you to a space where Southern Black culture meets modern art in Los Angeles. It’s a nuanced blend of beauty, creativity, and soul.

Bloom & Plume Coffee is operated by two brothers, Maurice and Moses Harris, whose creative inspiration came from their grandmother. Maurice has been the owner and operator of a successful flower shop bearing the same name next door to the coffee shop. They started the flower design and event company in 2010 and expanded into the coffee business in 2019 to diversify the revenue and expand the overall brand.

The coffee division of Bloom & Plume is a result of receiving a loan from PCR. The Bloom & Plume Coffee shop is a gourmet and organic coffee bar that serves pastries, specialty cold beverages, an egg sandwich, and parfaits, along with a signature waffle dishes. BPC provides a creative, modern aesthetic utilizing floral and plant arrangements from Bloom & Plume floral shop. During the work week customers generally come from within a half of a mile radius of the shop, and Bloom & Plume Coffee has become a top weekend destination for Angelenos and tourists. The brothers work to make Bloom & Plume Coffee and the floral shop a center of the south Echo Park community.

Bloom & Plume Coffee conducts business with as many local suppliers as possible including Rick’s Farm Fresh Produce, Bubs and Grandma and Proof Bakery LA. They hire locally and are working with local community leaders to rollout a neighborhood partnership plan. Goals include expanding apparel sales online and opening a second location. They will look to PCR for additional financing.

The brothers learned about PCR attending an Access to Capital Summit. They received financing as well as guidance around how to manage their construction project. “If it was not for PCR, there would be no Bloom & Plume Coffee. PCR is unique.
