How PCR Supports Financial Literacy in Underserved Communities
Financial literacy is the foundation of sustainable wealth. For many first-time entrepreneurs in Los Angeles, understanding cash flow, credit, and capital access is the difference between a dream and a business that lasts. PCR Business Finance has spent more than four decades helping small businesses, especially those owned by underserved communities, turn knowledge into power.
PCR’s workshops, webinars, and one-on-one coaching through the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) are intentionally designed to meet entrepreneurs at every stage. A new baker in South Central might learn to track inventory costs; a mechanic at an Auto Shop in North Hollywood refines his bookkeeping to prepare for a loan; a café owner explores strategies to expand with minimal debt. These small wins add up to large-scale empowerment.
In neighborhoods historically red-lined or under-banked, lack of financial education isn’t about ability, it’s about access. By partnering with funders such as Bank of America and the California Bank & Trust, PCR delivers free technical assistance that demystifies lending and builds generational confidence.
Each year, hundreds of clients complete PCR’s “Bankable Business” workshop, gaining skills to interpret balance sheets and improve credit readiness. Entrepreneurs leave with real plans, cash-flow templates, business budgets, and the ability to talk to lenders in their own language.
PCR continues to integrate digital learning tools and bilingual instruction to ensure financial literacy reaches even further across L.A. County.
If knowledge is wealth, PCR’s mission is to multiply it, one informed entrepreneur at a time.
